Re: Problem with 5 in 1

RF can be a flaky thing by nature.

A bit of case history here- I have been with AcuRite for 14 years and have seen/heard many stories of unexplained connection issues- but there is always an explanation somewhere, lurking in the depths of invisible RF traffic -if you will. A user had a similar experience with one of our 5n1 units and a bridge- seems that about a few times a month at a certain time he would lose connection- turned out to be a garbage truck blocking his 5n1 signal for a few minutes.

Also keep in mind that because you can visually have line-of site to a sensor from the receiver or bridge, does not necessarily mean your signal strength will be good- many users believe that placing a receiver near a window, or line of site through a window to their sensor will be best, makes sense, right? The truth is, most energy efficient windows of the last 20 years or so have special coatings and films on them that make them more energy efficient and more UV resistant- but those coatings can essentially mimic a large flat sheet of metal- which is not ideal for RF communication. I have experienced many scenarios where this was the case, and users simply moving their bridge out from in front of a window and in front of drywall and wood framing material does the trick in most cases. It's so common it's one of the first things I ask if I am talking to users with RF issues.

I would suggest trying out a few alternative locations for mounting your 5n1, or relocate the bridge and see if that helps. Sometimes a few feet really can make a difference.

Please let us know how we can assist you further- Thanks for choosing AcuRite!

Then how do you explain all the reports where a 5n1 gets dropped from the bridge but the towers remain unaffected?

As an electrical engineer and licensed radio operator, I understand the issues of RF, but the random drops of only the 5n1s and not the towers is pretty strange.
