Re: 5-in-1 Dual Solar Panel Possible heat reason?

It's definitely a bad panel.  I resoldered the wires onto the panel, shined a very bright flashlight on it, and tested with a voltmeter.  Still no voltage.  Then I found that if I twist the panel just right, it will produce 2.0+ volts.  The panel only works if I keep it twisted.

What I ended up doing is taking the one working panel and putting on the west-facing side of the single panel unit I had (fortunately) saved.  Tomorrow afternoon/evening will be the test of how well my mod works.

Do you think it was a bad panel or bad internal connection points/capacitors? Several people are saying their dual panel is not right. It is a shame because this could be an excellent weather station, but these issues such as the housing of the temp sensor or the ventilation fan need to be addressed. If it was me, I would put a solar shield underneath the unit, and do away with that small ventilation screen that is there now. It does next to nothing when the sun is low. I notice on some evenings, when the sun disappears off the unit and the fan stops, I gain 4 degrees briefly, and then the temp starts dropping, but it takes a couple of hours for things to catch up to where they need to be. I see this on my CWOP graphs too.

I wish someone could figure a way to get the temp sensor screen off and build a little solar shield there. The wind vane would need to be trimmed some though.

After all the tweaking of my stations housing, and location, my station is actually running cooler than anything else on the maps, but running equal to a Davis that is located a few blocks from me that only reports to weatherlink. Now that mine is doing so well, I have to wonder if the NOAA sites aren't tweaked up a few degrees. I am in an old neighborhood with lots of tall trees, so that may be a lot of it.
