After all the tweaking of my stations housing, and location, my station is actually running cooler than anything else on the maps, but running equal to a Davis that is located a few blocks from me that only reports to weatherlink. Now that mine is doing so well, I have to wonder if the NOAA sites aren't tweaked up a few degrees. I am in an old neighborhood with lots of tall trees, so that may be a lot of it.
My neighbors are a state forest and undeveloped (wooded) county parkland. I put up my new 5-in-1 and mounted it on a 20-foot mast last month, and finally started reporting to WU. It seems like my station is always the coldest of all in the region every morning, and is tracking nicely with others during the day or maybe at worst one degree higher. Last week, I recorded the unofficial state low temperature a couple of mornings...which is pretty remarkable when you consider that I'm hundreds of miles south/east from some notoriously cold spots such as Whiteface Mountain, Fort Drum, Watertown, and Buffalo. The ASOS across town (grassy field) did set the state lows, but my readings were still 1-2 degrees colder. Anyway, I was thinking that I should tweak my temperature up a degree to be in line with everyone else, but now I'm wondering if I shouldn't hang up another (calibrated) thermometer and get a second opinion?????
