Re: 5-in-1 Display

I received a replacement sensor yesterday and it connected shortly after batteries were installed. This Atlas sensor is only displayed once on the splash page. It seems the signal was corrupt from the faulty sensor, possibly due to duplicate signals.

Had to replace the four lithium batteries in my Atlas after 1 year 18 days.

The batteries in my Atlas stations don't last more than 8 months. This is the beta model and the main product.

Since I have had my Atlas and it's new touch screen display it shows " rain " in the future forecast ? Is there a setting I'm missing that needs to be twerked ? Here's today screen shot and it looks like this everyday . Any help would be appreciate !!

The forecast algorithm this display uses is useless in regions where daily pressure changes are significant ie arid areas of south-west. Here we have daily changes as much as 0.3 inches, all without significant weather change, for months at the time.

So, just ignore the weather forecast on your display.

I can completely agree with this, however, the 0.3" diurnal spread is a little extreme in my experience. Regardless, all this is thanks to the thermal low that develops over the Yuma region in the summer and drops the daily pressure simply from heat causing bone dry air to rise.

the 0.3" diurnal spread is a little extreme in my experience.

Apologies for not being more precise. 0.3" drop is not every day, average is closer to 0.1" (still a lot).
With 0.2" to 0.3" drop we usually get 5 degrees or more cooler temps. No rain though, unless it's wet season.

And as you've said, low humidity and rapid heating during the day, 9 months out of a year.

UV sensor poll

So far Ive had 3 UV sensors that Acurite has sent me and they have all had really really low readings . Not one of them is anywhere close to the readings of other type of station around me . I have no trees or buildings blocking the sun from my sensor . And when the forecast shows a UV reading of 10+ my sensor show 2 or 3 as the high reading . Acurite has now put my problem on " hold " . I would like to know how other user see there UV sensor !! Are you happy with it ?

The UV reading from my Atlas is always low. I complained about it to AcuRite and filed a warranty complaint. Below is the response I got back.

Thank you for your inquiry, I am happy to assist.

At this time, we have had a handful of users experiencing this same issue with the UV readings.  We are currently investigating this.  As soon as we come to a resolution we will be in contact with you as far as the next step.  I do have all of the information about your sensor that we need to investigate.

I apologize for the issues you have experienced and we do appreciate your patience in the above matter.

Thank you,

Got mine all the way to 15 with a flashlight.

Mine has read lower than any surrounding weather stations, as well as online UV readings for my area since the day I got it back in April.

I notified Acurite about it in a chat at the time.  They indicated that maybe THEIR unit was correct.  Since I couldn't prove otherwise and since I saw other Atlas owners here with the same problem, and since I didn't buy the unit for the UV readings anyway, I just let it go.

It would be nice if it were more accurate though.

If you're comparing to UV forecasts, be sure to do it at solar noon.

It seems the filter is too thick that is located under the outer UV housing... I think they need to make the filter out of a clearer material to allow more light through to the sensor.

So I'm kinda a Noob at this.

I have an Acurite Atlas 06059M and after following the instructions found here (https://github.com/weewx/weewx/wiki/sdr-rpi-recipe) which includes cloning your gethub of rtl_433. But when i run the test as shown in your example I'm still getting unknown message type from the Atlas.

Code: [Select]
pi@raspberrypi:~ $ sudo rtl_433 -G
rtl_433 version 19.08-36-g694ea62 branch master at 201910172222 inputs file rtl_tcp RTL-SDR
Use -h for usage help and see https://triq.org/ for documentation.
Trying conf file at "rtl_433.conf"...
Trying conf file at "/root/.config/rtl_433/rtl_433.conf"...
Trying conf file at "/usr/local/etc/rtl_433/rtl_433.conf"...
Trying conf file at "/etc/rtl_433/rtl_433.conf"...

Use -G for testing only. Enable protocols with -R if you really need them.

Consider using "-M newmodel" to transition to new model keys. This will become the default someday.
A table of changes and discussion is at https://github.com/merbanan/rtl_433/pull/986.

Now I don't know why its trying to detect it as a 5n1, as this is an Atlas. Now it does detect my other Acurite sensor, that i have in my fridge.

Any ideas? I don't have the lightning sensor yet, so that's not a big issue for me for right now. Is there anything else i could try?

It works but seems to report lower than others around in my area, ie, especially compared to Ambient Wx stations.

I concur 100% . The UV forecast was  suppose to be a 5 today .  My  station showed a 1 while all the Ambient Weather Station around me showed 5 . I did this check at the solar noon today at 11:37:51 PT .

The Atlas code isn't in the main branch yet.  You need to tell git to switch to the "feat-atlas" branch before compiling and installing.

Thanks for the quick reply.

So I did a clean install of 'Raspbian Buster with desktop' and found and downloaded the feat-atlas in the zip file, as i couldn't figure out how to 'git clone', unzipped, and copied over the folder to my PI, verified that the 'acurite.c' file was the updated one with the atlas things in there, and installed. And still when i run the 'sudo rtl_433 -G' command its still coming up 'Unknown message type ' with the 5n1.

Am I missing something?
