Re: Lightning Sensor Tower now on Access

If you're using Acuparse, it appears that it isn't forwarding the 6045M lightning sensor data to myAcurite.  You have to switch back to atlasapi.myacurite.com before it is detected.

I've sent the Acuparse author a note about it.

I haven't been following along.  IIRC the Access posts to an https URL.  Is it possible to intercept the Access traffic by hijacking DNS?   Does it check the SSL/TLS certificate?

I see the current version of Acuparse is throwing this error in the syslog.  It might save you some hassle.

Code: [Select]

George - Thanks so much for the pointers.

Intercepting the Access posts seems like it should make it pretty easy to figure out the rest of the encoding.  Thanks for posting the details of your message, that tells me a bit.

I didn't know how evolved Acuparse had become.  I was confusing it with one of the early perl scripts for scraping the smarthub data. Thanks for saving me the time with regard to the exception. I'm now watching the Acuparse repos so I should see when a fix gets committed.

From https://gitlab.com/acuparse/acuparse/issues/85:

Quote
To start, lightning towers will work like any other tower, minus the lightning data. A new option will also be added so users can select if they also want to pass unsupported sensor data to MyAcurite. At the moment, it's dropped. That will stay the default.

Lightning data will come later, it requires a bunch of database changes and rework. There is additional data from the Atlas to collect, so will be part of that update.

UPDATE:

I received the new 5 in 1 from Acurite and have it installed on a pole near my old 5 in1. The old one had the multi-panel solar array and the new one has only the single panel. It will be interesting to see if there is any difference in daytime sunny day temps due to this. Also, the motor in the new one is almost inaudible whereas the motor in the old one is quite loud.

So far I have received no erroneous rainfall data on the new display _or_ on the old one. It will be interesting to see if I get a rainfall spike on the old supposed at fault 5 in 1 and not on the new one that is supposed to correct the problem. (I'll communicate any findings with Acurite).

One new and interesting minor problem occurring now is that while the new 5 in 1 hasn't had any connection problems with the Access, the old 5 in 1 will pretty consistently change from strong signal/normal battery/online state to strong signal/normal battery/weak and then offline state. The new 5 in 1 may drop to weak signal intermittently but it has remained consistently online since installation a few days ago.

Weird lack of signal problem with Atlas

I have an Atlas with three touchscreens and an Access.
For the last few days, the reception on all of my screens has been very low, with the number of "bars" dropping to zero at times.   The Access splash page however gave me a constant signal of "4" and said the battery was "normal"

Amazingly enough, my Access was working fine, and looking at my PWS Weather Underground page, it was getting constant readings when my home Atlas screens were not.

I put new lithium batteries in the Atlas anyway.   No change at all, checked the old batteries and they had been fine.
Just to see what would happen, I unplugged one of the touchscreens.  When I plugged it back in, it could not FIND the Atlas weather station at all.  After an hour I had no readings from the station.
Finally I thought I'd do a factory reset.    To my amazement, I have full bars on that screen now and it's reading like a champ.  Of course, all my data from that touchscreen is gone  :(

My two other screens are still showing a lack of signal.   I figure if I do a factory reset on them, I'll be back to normal but I hate to do that.

Just wondering if our friend George or anyone can give me any idea of what the heck is going on here?

I'm not sure what originally happened, but you might want to verify the channel switch in the Atlas didn't get bumped when you were changing batteries.

Check the sensor channel of the display that is now working.  See if it still matches the channel of the displays that can't find the sensor.

If it doesn't match, try removing, then re-adding the sensor in the display.  I'd assume that would be less drastic than a reset.

Thanks George,

That's what happened when I changed batteries, I must have moved that switch to "C."

My other two screens are happy now, I removed and added a sensor and all is fine.

That doesn't explain what was going on before I changed batteries, since the old ones were fine.  Maybe I was getting some interference on the "A" channel, although the Access continued to receive everything perfectly on that channel.

I guess it's just one of those mysteries.  Thanks again for your suggestion.

It sounds like a bad temp/humidity sensor.  Depending on the age of the unit, it can be replaced for about $13 without soldering.

If it's an older unit, you can likely still replace it with the $13 module, but you'll have to cut the 4 wires and solder them into the appropriate spots on the motherboard.

If it's a really old unit with 7 wires, it is toast.

This is a long-shot, but you might try doing a hard-reset of your display.

If the pressure is falling, most times mine will show rain. It's a built in algorithm that changes the weather icon by how rapidly the pressure goes up or down from what I have observed on mine.

Take out batteries, move the ABC switch around, put it back on the correct original setting, and replace batteries. If this doesn't fix it, the thermo/hygro chip is bad.

So if I remove the current sensor - which I have done - but still have the same readings on the display, is it the sensor or the display?  And I have removed the batteries and done the reset holding no down the set button and both arrows. Just checking before I order the replacement piece.

And thanks again for the help.

Are all the other readings besides the temp on the display OK?

If you did the reset on the display, that won't fix anything. You need to do the reset on the outdoor sensor...

UPDATE 2

Sadly #-o the new 5 in 1 unit sent to me from Acurite has reported erroneous rainfall. All was well until this morning. Interestingly, both the new and old units reported false rainfall data although different amounts and at different times of the same day. The old unit had reported false readings several times since I installed the new unit but this was the first time for the new unit. Is this a clue to the cause of the problem? I still think a new Access added into the equation would diagnostic but Acurite Co. doesn't agree so I am back to square one.

Included are two screen captures showing the problem.

1- The MyAcurite screen shows the new and old 5 in 1 units and the erroneous rainfall recorded for both. Interestingly the bad data occurs at different times of the morning.

2- The Wunderground map is only reporting the new 5 in 1 unit and shows the erroneous .11" rainfall at my station as well as the other stations in my area that are correctly reporting 0" rainfall.

A new problem Atlas display .

I bought a stand alone lighting detector AcuRite 06045M  and it didn't work at all . Was someones used return that Amazon tried to sell as new .  So I bought from Amazon the " AcuRite Lightning Detector Atlas Weather Station " model 06075M and installed that .  Another member here noticed in another thread I had a low signal strength so I keep track of it and have found out on my display the signal works off and on now . I mean it's bad more times than good with  no signal showing most of the time  . Before adding this new sensor I never had any problems with the signal from my Atlas . Ive tried moving the antenna from one place to another with no help .

So my question is has anyone else added a lighting sensor to there Atlas and when they did how was the signal ?

I haven't noticed any signal differences.  I'm not sure why their would be.

The difference in signal composition when the lightening module is installed is that each message is 2 bytes longer.  Each message is sent 3 times per transmission, so that's a total of 6 extra bytes for every 10 second transmission.

I have the 5-in-1 weather station. Do they  have a display that is strictly battery operated? :?: Where I want to but the new display there is no outlet to plug in.
