Re: upgrading to Atlas from 5-in-1?

If you haven't seen it, this thread may shed some further light on your question.

????
The OP is asking about power outages and the Atlas... is he not?

He's asking about the Atlas display.

That thread is about an Access that went beyond 12 hours of outage.

Two distinctly different pieces of hardware with different purposes, neither of which is an Atlas itself.

Fine. Now he knows more than he did 5 minutes ago.

2.) I am seeing some older threads that say the Display on the Atlas does not have a battery backup. Is this still true? If it is, does that mean I have to go through the entire setup each time the power blips or does it save any settings at all?

There is one additional item that resets each time the display is unplugged or loses power, even for a few seconds.  The Learning Mode that works to calibrate barometric pressure readings to your elevation resets each time the display loses power.  This means you'll have approximately 30 days of "learning" to live with any time the display loses power for any amount of time.

It's a much more substantial build than the 5n1.  It's also easy to service most parts without tools.

One of my units was invaded by ants recently.  However, it cleaned up nicely.  4 screws and I could remove the electronics bay.  It took another 4 screws to get to the main board were the nest was.  All the wires were socketed and labeled for easy disassembly and re-assembly.

Canned air and a small paintbrush got all the ant residue out without much problem (other than the live ants which survived the freezing process).

Well I ended up pulling the trigger on one along with a cyber power st450 UPC. Should be here in a few days. Thanks for all the info.

Lots of good work here, thanks for tracking it.  I will try the branch this week.  I can't wait for lightening to be supported!

That’s a coincidence! I saw the same screen, except it was Weds. night and Thurs. morn. when I was having some router issues. My  ‘My Acurite’ problems also resolved on their own on Thurs. morning.

Lightning Sensor Tower now on Access

I just realized that my Access found the Lightning sensor with thermo/hygro tower. I added it to my dashboard. Firmware 51.

Good catch.  I've had a 06045M Lightning Detector installed since February.  Found it as an available device and added it as one of my Access Sensors.  It started displaying data after just a few minutes.  [tup]

If you're using the myAcurite smartphone app, you'll need to update it if it hasn't already.

The Access light is solid blue. My display is receiving updates, but the Atlas is not listed as an available sensor. Why does this show two sensors?  [ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

I'm not sure why you should be seeing two.  A neighbor?

In any case, the Access looks fine.  It should be transmitting a sensor list to myAcurite every 5 minutes.

If the available sensors don't show soon, then you should contact Acurite.

I have no neighbors. It looks like this will be a warranty issue.

Here are the instructions I received from AcuRite when I reported that my Atlas was repeatedly loosing connection with Access randomly for 5 minutes to an hour or so. I also have a 5N1 which never lost connection during this same periods. The below did not fix my issue, and I was sent a replacement sensor.

From AcuRite support:

Thank you for choosing AcuRite. I have reviewed your ticket and found that the following article information may be helpful. Please follow the suggestions and let me know if you are in need of any further assistance.

*Bring sensor(s) within 4 ft of Access and let pair for 10 minutes minimum. This is to pair the Access and sensors together properly.

*Make sure the Access has a 3-foot clearance around it from other electronics, appliances, and windows. ***This is also for your display unit if you are using one.

*The sweet spot to get signal from the sensors to your Access. If you are looking at the Access the blue light as the 6 o'clock position and the Ethernet port as the 12 o'clock position (LEFT side of unit/blue light). If you have the left side that between 6 and 12 facing the sensor, this is considered the sweet spot to get the best signal strength between the Access and the sensor.

If the above tips do not correct your connection issue, please provide the following information.

Thank you for going through the previous troubleshooting. At this point, we would like to request a copy of the splash page for the Access. The instructions on how to retrieve the splash page are below. Once you have it, can you please reply to this email with a screenshot of the splash page?

1. Open a web browser (Internet Explorer, Chrome, Safari, etc.).
2. Enter your router address in the URL bar. The default address for many routers is 192.168.1.1 --once you have entered this, press Enter on your keyboard. (If this is not your default address, consult your router's manual for the correct address.)
3. Most routers are different. Look for something similar to "DHCP List" or "Client List". These lists should contain the Device ID addresses and assigned IP addresses to any devices connected to your router.
4. Locate the Device ID address that matches your Access's Device ID address exactly. This address will always start with 24:C8:6E
5. Next, to the Access's Device ID address, you should see the assigned IP address. Write this IP address down.
6. In your web browser's URL bar, now enter the IP address assigned to your Access, then press Enter on your keyboard. This will bring you to the splash page for the Access.

Please also provide the below information.

1.) Reply to this email with your full name, shipping address, and phone number. (For locations in Canada, please provide a physical location.)

2.) If not previously registered, provide a copy of the proof of purchase dated within the last year by attaching to this email.

3.) Locate a small white sticker on the battery door and provide the 4 digits on it.

Thank you,

I just was looking through the iOS updates and almost fell off my chair when I saw they added support for the "lightning tower".  I then checked my Access and saw the firmware was recently updated.  Then I came here to find all of those details were already covered.

It doesn't look like you can add any lightning related alerts through My Acurite yet.

Hopefully now I can finish my rtl_433 decoder.  I never had a good lead for the strike distance value.

Does it also show up on the new touch display ? P.S I just ordered one from Amazon for the free shipping .

My Acurite shows 5 minute data buckets, so this might be a little harder than I'd like

I haven't been following along.  IIRC the Access posts to an https URL.  Is it possible to intercept the Access traffic by hijacking DNS?   Does it check the SSL/TLS certificate?

One thing I was able to see today with MyAcurite that people with consoles reported is that the strike count displayed by Acurite consoles and MyAcurite goes up when either the field that seems to be the strike count increments or the field that seems to be the strike distance changes, and there also seems to be a correlation with the USSB1 (unknown strike status bit) also toggles.

If the 6045M requires keeping state to infer the events, rtl_433 will only ever just output raw data.  A consumer of the data (ike Weewx) would have to check the last message and look at the most recent message to figure out what the new state is.

A DNS redirect works.  It's also possible to re-program where the Access sends data itself with a bit of work, or you can load up Acuparse and use its built-in tool.

It doesn't care about the certificate validity, so you can make your own.

I've been looking at the Atlas lightning module decode.  The counter is obvious through creating false strikes, but I haven't figured out the distance and interference parts.
